Volvo reveals EX60 EV to start at $58,400, plans to expand US production

Volvo pulled the wraps off its newest electric vehicle on Monday, the EX60 SUV, marking another step in the company's shift toward an all-electric lineup. The midsize crossover will carry a starting price of $58,400, positioning it as a direct competitor to models like the Tesla Model Y and the upcoming Chevrolet Blazer EV.

The EX60 is built on Volvo's next-generation electric platform, which the company says will offer improved range and faster charging compared to its earlier EVs. While Volvo did not release final EPA range estimates, early specifications suggest the vehicle will target over 300 miles on a full charge. The SUV features a minimalist interior with a large central touchscreen, updated safety systems, and a design that closely follows the styling cues of the larger EX90.

Beyond the vehicle itself, Volvo announced plans to expand its manufacturing footprint in the United States. The company currently builds the S60 sedan at its plant in Ridgeville, South Carolina, but executives confirmed that the EX60 will also be produced there. This move is intended to help the brand qualify for federal EV tax credits under the Inflation Reduction Act, which requires final assembly in North America.

Volvo has committed to becoming a fully electric car company by 2030, and the EX60 is expected to play a central role in that transition. Deliveries are slated to begin in the first half of next year.
