Lucid Group saw its stock surge more than 21 percent on Tuesday, closing at $7.90 per share, after news broke that a prominent Saudi prince had taken a significant stake in the struggling electric vehicle maker. The move helped calm investor fears about the company's financial stability.
In a regulatory filing released the same day, Lucid disclosed that Saudi Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Bin Abdulaziz had acquired a 5 percent stake in the company. The investment from the well-known royal, who has a history of backing major global firms, signals continued confidence from Saudi Arabia's deep-pocketed investors. Lucid has long relied on funding from the Saudi Public Investment Fund, which remains its largest shareholder.
The stock had been under pressure in recent months as the EV industry faces slowing demand, production challenges, and high cash burn rates. Lucid, like many of its peers, has struggled to ramp up deliveries of its luxury Air sedan while spending heavily on expansion. The prince's backing suggests that key Middle Eastern backers are still willing to support the company through its rough patch.
Analysts noted that the investment does not solve Lucid's fundamental problems, such as achieving profitability or scaling production. But for now, it removes the immediate fear of a liquidity crisis. Shares have been volatile this year, and Tuesday's rally marks one of the strongest single-day gains for the stock in recent memory.
