JPMorgan, South Korea's KB Kookmin are moving payments onchain

JPMorgan, South Korea's KB Kookmin are moving payments onchain

A new collaboration between two major financial institutions is bringing traditional payments onto the blockchain. Scott Melker, host of "The Daily Wolf," recently discussed the reported partnership between KB Kookmin Bank, the largest bank in South Korea, and JPMorgan Chase's Kinexys platform.

The move signals a growing trend of legacy banks adopting distributed ledger technology for real-world transactions. Kinexys, JPMorgan's blockchain-based system, is designed to handle complex payment flows and settlement processes. By integrating with KB Kookmin, the partnership aims to streamline cross-border payments and improve efficiency for corporate clients.

This is not the first time JPMorgan has pushed into blockchain. The bank has been developing its own digital currency and payment infrastructure for years. However, tying up with a major Asian lender like KB Kookmin suggests a broader push to make onchain payments a standard part of international banking.

For now, the details remain limited, but the announcement adds to a growing list of traditional finance firms exploring blockchain for back-end operations. As more banks test these systems, the line between conventional finance and crypto infrastructure continues to blur.
