Vertiv Holdings is having a moment. The stock is up roughly 60 percent over the past year, and that kind of run would normally make some investors nervous. But Adam Johnson, portfolio manager for the Bullseye American Ingenuity Fund, is not backing away. He just named Vertiv his top pick for the day, and he says the growth story is far from over.
Johnson points to the company's position in the data center and cooling infrastructure space. As artificial intelligence workloads expand, the demand for high-performance power and thermal management systems keeps rising. Vertiv is one of the few names that sits directly in that path, supplying the gear that keeps massive server farms running without overheating. That is not a niche business anymore. It is a critical piece of the digital economy.
The 60 percent jump might look like a lot, but Johnson argues the market is still pricing in only part of the opportunity. He notes that order backlogs remain strong, and the company has been winning contracts with major cloud providers and enterprise clients. The real question, he says, is not whether Vertiv can keep growing, but how fast the broader AI buildout will accelerate.
Of course, a stock that has already moved this much can be volatile. Pullbacks happen. But Johnson sees any meaningful dip as a chance to add, not a reason to run. He says the fundamentals are solid, the balance sheet is healthy, and the long-term demand curve is still pointing up.
For investors looking for exposure to AI infrastructure without chasing the usual chip names, Vertiv offers a different angle. It is not a semiconductor play. It is the behind-the-scenes backbone that makes all that computing possible. And according to Johnson, that is exactly why it deserves attention right now.
