Export Development Canada, the country's export credit agency, has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Export-Import Bank of Thailand, a state-owned financial institution under Thailand's Ministry of Finance. The deal aims to strengthen bilateral trade and investment links while expanding cooperation across the Asia-Pacific region.
The agreement arrives as both nations celebrate 65 years of diplomatic relations this year. Under the MOU, the two organizations will work to identify and support joint business opportunities, share financial expertise, and facilitate cross-border projects that benefit Canadian and Thai companies alike.
Officials from both sides emphasized the potential for growth in sectors such as infrastructure, clean technology, and agriculture. The partnership is expected to provide Canadian exporters with better access to Southeast Asian markets while helping Thai firms tap into Canadian expertise and capital.
This collaboration reflects a broader push by both countries to deepen economic ties amid shifting global trade dynamics. While specific financial commitments were not disclosed, the MOU lays the groundwork for future co-financing and risk-sharing arrangements.
