A Florida man who thought he was joining the solar industry to help people save money and the environment says he quickly discovered the real job was selling loans, not panels. He brought his complaint to personal finance expert Dave Ramsey, explaining how the sales role felt misleading from the start.
During a call on Ramsey's show, the salesman described how the company pushed financing products over actual solar equipment. He said the pitch centered on monthly payments and loan terms, with the solar panels almost becoming an afterthought. Customers, he claimed, were often sold on the idea of lower electric bills, but the fine print involved long-term debt with high interest rates.
The man told Ramsey he felt stuck. He needed the paycheck but worried he was misleading homeowners. Ramsey advised him to leave the job if his conscience was troubled, warning that selling debt disguised as green energy would hurt both the customers and the salesman's reputation. The story highlights a growing concern in the solar industry, where aggressive sales tactics sometimes prioritize loan commissions over honest system installations.
