The city of Perry has announced the appointment of Lyn McDonald as its new finance director, filling a key leadership role in municipal financial management. McDonald brings over 15 years of experience in public sector accounting and budgeting, having previously served as a senior financial analyst for a neighboring county government.
City officials confirmed that McDonald will oversee the city's annual budget, financial reporting, and long-term fiscal planning. She replaces the former director who retired earlier this year after 22 years of service. Mayor James Whitfield praised the hire, stating that McDonald's track record of managing complex financial systems and her familiarity with state funding requirements made her the ideal candidate.
McDonald holds a master's degree in public administration and is a certified public finance officer. In her first week, she plans to review the current fiscal year's spending and meet with department heads to align financial goals. "I look forward to ensuring transparency and stability in how taxpayer dollars are managed," McDonald said in a statement.
The city council unanimously approved her appointment during a regular meeting Tuesday. McDonald is expected to start her duties on March 1.
